Opinions please. Springs or Lifters

Ok heres my dilema. I picked up a set of LE3 heads and was planning on reuseing my like new stock lifters with the LE2 cam I have. But the Heads have the comp 977 springs which from my searches are to stiff for stock lifters. So my option is this either buy morel lifters and run the heads as they are or get some beehives and use the stock lifters. The reason I dont just swap out the springs is because im not sure I could do it right therefore I would have to pay a shop to do it so id end up spending roughly the same cost as buying the morels. So what would you guys do if you were in my shoes?

Also whats the part number for the Beehive springs I would need for a .605 lift cam?

well I just got off the phone with Com Cams and they said I should run a 26918 spring with 774-16 retainers. does that sound right?

I guess if the cam was spec'd to run on 977's setup as they are, then I would get the Morel's if the cost was a wash.

If the springs will be 125/130 on the seat and 325/350 on the nose after break in they will be OK. The springs will loose 15lbs to 25lbs after a few heat cycles. That would be 145/365 as rated on the high side. Your stock lifters should be fine with the above spring pressures. Morels are nice but not needed.

Go with Morels. If your springs fail then you can switch to Beehives. 977s have 150 close seat pressure

Stock lifters.....
I use 175 PSI seat pressure@1.9 installed height...
I imagine their down 20 psi now. I never had leak down isssue with that seat psi. Stock style lifters will handle a lot more than people give them credit!

Well the cam can run on either the 977 or the beehive's. the springs were originally set up for the LE3 cam fro Joe O but I have since decided to go with a LE2 Cam from Bret. so I guess either spring should work well with the cam its just the lifters im concerned about and I also havent checked the coil bind with the LE2 cam and the 977 springs. just from going over the number quick it looks like its gonna be close.

As I stated the lifters WILL work if they are in good shape. An inspection is needed on the external body of the lifter.
Ya need .050 min before coil bind. and to much gap is as bad as too little.
If the spring pressures in my earlier post are close to what you have after break in your springs will work. These are pretty common pressure for a HYD roller.
