OPINIONS needed - LT1 headers MAC or HOOKER

Hey all..
Well recently I've been trying to purchase some single-cat headers for my LT1. Some people made some offers but no one really came thru w/ the pics... so gotta go another route! I have two options I'm looking at now.
1. mac headers - coated 1 5/8", true-fit w/ high flow y-pipe, full kit included for $ 440...
OR
2. hooker headers - black 1 5/8", super comp shorties, full kit included for $ 330....
Any opinions? I was looking for SLP's.. but brand new they just cost too much more and I've heard some good things about both of these brands... let me know what YOU think!! (And soon, I need to decide in a day!)
Or, of course, if anybody has any for sale... LMK!!! Pics also please...

I would suggest getting the Hooker ceramic coated for $540 at summit. You definitly want some ceramic coated headers to reduce the engine bay tamperature and also they look better. The reason I didn't get that MAC's is because they did not some ceramic coated. I could have gotten them ceramic coated, but did not want to go through the hassel.

I bought Macs, but if I had to do it again, I would go with (coated) Hookers. Headers are work, and longtubes=more value.

I have the Hooker's. They are great and the plug access is good. I did not get them coated though. Just get ready fro some scrapes and scratches when you install them. They make a difference for sure.

I've got hookers jet hot coated. I've never used another brand so this is my .02. A few of the primarys had to be ding with a hammer to ovalize them. I could not fit a bolt or header stud. I used studs to mount them and had to make my own wrench. Thier was no room between the bolt and the primary tube.

I've had both sets of shorties on my car. The Mac's are actually midlength headers and have better plug access than the Hooker Shorties (IMO). I could change the plugs in 30 minutes from the top with those. The only thing that I did not like about the Mac's was the slip fit to go around the steering column.

From what I have seen and used, my opinion is to go with the MAC headers. Either way you will make more power over stock manifolds.

Pete.

BTW I don't think it is possible to change the plugs on the hookers. I took the passenger side back off to install the plugs first.

i got macs on mine and that slip tube dosn't leak on mine. make sure you put some high temp sealant on there and don't use the clap that they give you use a muffler clap.

It leaked a little at first, but like was just posted . ..use some high temp sealant and clamp the crap out of it. That should do it.
