Opinions on lifters?

With my new heads/cam on the way in a few weeks I'll be replacing my lifters this time around.

Comp R's with all these retainer problems reported are out of the question.

Morel's are out of my budget.

That leaves..

OEM kit part #12371042, 16 #17120735 lifters - $181
Comp OEM style - $200
Sealed Power lifters OEM style - $9 per lifter - $144

I imagine the Comps are the best way to go here?

What the actual difference amongst the 3?

There is always these:

Not too bad for under $12 each.

But I don't recommend anything for stock lift if your cam has a higher lift. Many here have said that they have used the stockers with higher lift but I feel it's just a matter of time before they are over stressed. Not sure just a guess.

In that case I would recommend these.

Oh yeah. Since 1975, never had a Crane product let me down.

Re: Opinions on lifters?

No, they posted that incorrectly.. that's per lifter. The part # I placed is the one for 16 lifters.

"For use with standard GM alignment bars." I thought we don't use alignment bars?

If I'm gonna spend ~$500 on lifters, I'm getting Morels. JMO

Re: Opinions on lifters?

Probably your stock, existing lifters will be fine after a Good inspection. Look at the botton "ears" for crack's and wash the outside real good and check the rollers for slack and rough spots. Look at the brg axle and make sure it's tight and no cracks around them.
Do not submerge lifters in solvent, just rinse off the outside and blow dry.
I have used 100,000 mile factory lifters on a pretty good size cam with 150 seat and 350 nose pressure and they were fine. Make sure your springs are up to the pounding as that's were most of the horror stories ya hear about lifters-- To little spring pressure.

Hey--- If ya just gotta get rid of some money get rid of it over this way.

The alignment bars are for the roller lifters (keeps the rollers 90 degrees to the cam), it is the OEM, or aftermarket self-aligning rockers don't require the "push-rod" guides. All roller lifters require some mechanical device to align them. Flat tappet lifters don't require any alignment, they just spin in the lifter hole.

Well, I'm not reusing mine due to my pushrod death.. decided not to chance it, in case it wasn't a loose rocker and had it been a bad lifter.

I figure it's $200 in security in a $3k setup
