Angry Open Shorty Headers = Car not start ?

okay .. so i am done with my head/cam/headers work and i put the front of the car all together.

so i crank it up the first time and the timing is all wrong .. car miss fired and backfired into intake blabla .. i basically placed the opti wrong on the timechain. So i corrected that.

Started car again .. runs for 1-2 seconds dies.
found out that #3 wire and #1 were not put on right .. fixed it.

Fired car again .. Starts great .. engine sounds clean firing sequence seems to be right ... but then .. it dies after 1-2 seconds .. i was giving it 10-15% gas (me pushing on the pedal) to keep it running and it revs nicely .. but after i let go it dies.

- Well this leads me to ask the question:

1) is running open shorties results into the car dying because of no back pressure?

2) Would my BBK 58mm TB be causing a problem here .. would i need to calibrate it to make the car idle atleast ? .. or is it already calibrated from factory

please enlighten me .. here is some stuff that i checked

**Fuel pressure is good
**O2's were working fine before build .. they should still work fine
**PCM programmed PCM4less
**timing is good .. i lined up both at 12 12 for TDC#1 and installed timing chain then installed opti over them with making sure that the opti is sliding nicely and fits right in no problem( checked the little marks on the gear that drives the opti and matched it to the other end on the block)

I am kinda runnin' out of ideas here .. help me out

Did you get tuned for your TB? I believe anything over the 48mm and you need a tune for it to run correctly, but I don't know if that would cause your car to die downright.

yes the tune included the 58mm TB.

Its really weired .. i still want to know about the backpressure stuff just to make sure and narrow the problem down

anyone has an exact correct answer to the backpressure question?? does it die if i run it with open shorty headers because there is no backpressure ?

You don't need to worry about back pressure. The car should run just fine with open headers. Make sure all of your vacuum lines are hooked up.

no, you just lose torque

Most people drive to the muffler shop with open headers. I did, no problems.

You put the opti on incorrectly and crossed some plug wires so Id be looking for other things you might have left out. Are you 100% sure the timing chain was installed dot-to-dot as in the cam at 6 or 12 o'clock and the crank at 12 o'clock.

Re: Open Shorty Headers = Car not start ?

okay guys thanks alot for the replies i found out the problem.

i forgot to close the small hole on the intake manifold that is right under the throttlebody. that hole was leaking air and it made the car die.

now i got it started and i welded my exhaust .. guess what?

My plug wires were too close to a pulley on the left side (passenger side) and they got screwed. car died on a highway and had to get it towed

Well .. i guess i learn a new thing about this car everyday .. and i am paying outta my *** for getting it fixed everytime .

any suggestions for wires and routing ?

Re: Open Shorty Headers = Car not start ?

The wires need to lay flat against the accessory bracket so they will not contact the serpentine belt. A wire loom that holds all 4 wires flat as close as possible to the block after they turn the corner will help.
I've been happy with Accel 9000 wires. I put them on when I installed my headers a couple of years ago.

I took some extra insurance and ran some black conduit (wire shroud) over the wires to provide a bit of resistance to abrasion and arcing. You can get it at any hardware store or auto store.
