Are you talking about the coolant level sensor or temperature sensors? There are two coolant temperature sensors, one in the driver's side head and the second is mounted in the water pump. One is used for the temperature gauge on the dash (I believe that's the one mounted in the water pump) and the second is used by the PCM for engine management. The coolant level sensor is mounted in the radiator, just below the fill neck) and will give you a false low colant indicator (lamp on the dash) if it is dirty.

First off, in the future, refer to "Open Loop" as "Open Circut". As open loop means something totally different.
as for your open circut. If you are refering to your Coolant temp sensor being open. Then yes that could definitely effect your idle.
If your CTS is unplugged your car will think the ambiant tempature as somewhere in the neighborhood of -40C, and will adjust your fuel accordingly. If you are talking about your coolant level sensor than no, it couldn't but it would probably be wise to fix it anyway.

The one on the drivers side of the block controls the dash. The one on the water pump controls the PCM.

Mine on the water pump ****ted out on me and it caused my car to run like crap. The PCM wont send the fuel system into closed loop until it senses a warmed up engine. It will run slower and in open loop (basically a "choke") and be VERY rich.

Good luck,
Stu
