Re: Open Headers; good or bad idea??

I drove for about 3 months with open headers, just carry a ratchet with every socket known to man because you vibrate EVERYTHING loose in your car, including that mass of gooey stuff inbetween your ears. It sounds freakin amazing especially at WOT it just has this NASCAR scream, but it DOES get old, I never thought it would, but it does. The good thing is that you can have plenty of time to decide on what you want to do with your exhaust while it still sounds good and theres no extra pipes to take off when you do it right. As for cops you should be OK if your not too obnoxious, ive gone past a cop at 5k Rpm with open LTs, just dont go over the speed limit like that. you can always claim you hit a pot hole and ripped your exhaust off or something.

Re: Open Headers; good or bad idea??

This is what I am running to help my turbo spool and to lose about 50 lbs (catback)

Right after the downpice (in your case Y pipe) I just put a 3" to 3.5 " espander into a 3.5" bullet muffler with a dump. As far as performance goes its great, I may switch to a Borla muffler thought quiet it down though.

Re: Open Headers; good or bad idea??

thanks for the help, after reading this and searching a little, i think i'll most likely either just get the x pipe and let the exhuast dump after the x pipe or just have the local exhaust shop weld up a couple pipes to collectors that run to about the rear of the front seats. On another topic, anyone got an idea of what a used borla catback in mint condition (never driven in snow or rain) with a test pipe generally can be sold for?

I noticed when running open headers my oxygen sensors were reading incorrectly, not exactly a good thing to do for a daily driver.

im currently running pacesetters, and i just bought the flowmaster tailpipe kit (was like 60 bucks for the 3" kit) and built a X setup, right after the X i have 2 bullets w/ turndowns right before the axle...for a stock head/cam car, it sounds damn good i think.

if you wanna be a sleeper with it, atleast while its parked, go find some honda guy and buy his muffler, i just welded a tanabe hyper medallion super assassin dragon slayer strobing muffler on, i've got nothing but laughs and "i'll walk your V6" all day.

seriously i dunno how the ricers are in your guys parts of the country, but down here they have started sticking the mufflers further out and angling them like the supra guys, and the 240sx crowd...i just wanted to feel "in" plus, the look on the supra guys face as we go from a 100 roll and he gets walked then hears the BOV is priceless.

LOL, my daily driver is a 99 civic si with a fart cannon, lol.... gas is just getting to damn expensive 2.50 a gallon for premium in IL, in all honesty although the civic is slow as hell (still beats rustang 5. slows, haha) the one thing i wish my camaro could do is rev out to 8200 rpm like my civic can.
