Ooops! I cut the wrong wire trying to install a tach!

I used this guide from Shoebox's site:

Because I'm an idiot, instead of splicing into the white wire in the C230 cluster, I cut the gray wire. The car seems to be running OK. Can someone please tell me what the gray wire is for?

According to Shoebox's harness diagram and his wiring diagrams, appears there may be some gray wires routed through C230 supplying reference voltage to the A/C evaporator temp sensor. Did you check to see if your A/C works OK?

Thanks for the reply, Fred.

I haven't recharged my A/C yet since getting my motor back together, so don't know if it works. I suppose the only thing to do now is splice it up and hope for the best.

BTW, what exact function does the evaporator temp sensor perform? Obviously it's a temp sensor, but what does the A/C system use the temp reading for?

The PCM gets the signal from the evaporator temp sensor. Not sure how it uses the info.
