Cool Old time jerry rigging

Driving along, check guages light goes on, temperature gauge shoots to redline, car starts to clack like it is running way to hot.

Stop at Mobil station on corner. Pop hood, no coolant leak can be observed. I notice hose split under the radiator hoses. It turns out to be combo metal rubber hose from waterpump that split across metal coupling.

Ask mechanic for two clamps and a piece of scrap rubber hose. Bring broken connection together and clamp down until I can torque no more using ratchet mechanic lent me.

Fill up with coolant and water. Let it run a bit, no leaks good to go.

Ask mechanic what I owe him for supplies and time (needed his jack and tools). He tells me nothing. I give him a $20 for lunch.

Tells me system is high pressure, drive it home and park it until you get new replacement hoses. Mentions his GNX, Bel Air and SS.

Nice guy, not a crook!

We need more people like this. Good honest people, not out to make a killing on repairs all the time every time, all day every day.
