Old school SBC valve springs???

Ive had a set of Comp cams double valve springs good to .600 lift for some time now and never put them in my Nova I had. Sold the Nova but still have the springs. My question is will these SBC springs work on the LT1 heads?

Probably yes, what's the part # on those springs? Seats must be used because they're going on aluminium heads.

Part number is-----249-987-16 in the Jegs catalog. I have the spring cups for them as well. They were gonna go on my AFR aluminum heads I had on the Nova.

Yes they'll work, they are 1.43" and I used to run them on the LT4 heads, I've also used the 986 which are the same size on the LT1 aluminium heads on the Impala.

Re: Old school SBC valve springs???

Do a search for "987 springs" and see what you find. Some people are using them with no issues, other have had issues with the flat inner spring making contact with the valve seal.

Comp cams will tell you that in order to use those springs on a stock LT1 head, the valve guides will need to be machined down to seat the valve seal lower for clearence.

Yeah, thats what I was wondering about. The inner spring hitting the valve seal. Ill try them, I think they will be ok. Im gonna put some 1.6 RR's on at the same time.
