Old School Sb Or Bb Or Ls1 In Lt1 Car

Has anyone installed an old school SB or BB chevy engine in a 93-97 Fbody? If so, is the effort and cost worth it? It seems that you can pick up the older style carbed engines a lot cheaper than a modded LT1.

I would also like to know the same issues on installing an LS1 into an LT1 body. I have a shot at a good deal on an LT1 body with no engine or trans. Thanks in advance for your insights.

well, doing a big block is possible, but it's going to be a big PITA of course. since the lt1 is superior to most all other small block motors, you wouldn't see any gains in doing a swap there either. I'd have no idea about putting an ls1 into an lt1, but i imagine theres some way to do it without too much of a problem. it'd probably be best to find an ls1 donor camaro as close to your car as possible. same trans and all. use the whole wiring harness and k-member. it would probably be easiest to do so on a 6 spd car, but i'm not sure. you'd basically be best to buy a wrecked ls1 donor car with good radiator, motor, and trans. this way u can use everything, and not end up buying stuff part by part. it's stil arguably better just to build a nice lt1 and throw it in.

lmao........what planet are you from?

sbc motors have a much better choice of heads and intake. you can easily make 650+ hp with the same money it would take to make 500 on an LT1.

how much money are you looking to spend? that will determine what to do.

Very true... much better blocks out there too. Dart and World Products have gen1 SBC blocks that can eclipse the 427 cubic inch barrier with ease. WP's new motown block will go out to almost 460cubic inches . The heads and intakes are vast, the blocks can handle 2k+ hp, and the parts for them are relatively cheap and easy to find. Man i have to bite my tongue so hard not to jump ship on the LT1....

Have fun getting the distributor in with the cowl sticking over a third of the motor.

just so you know they have a low profile distrib. i think they call it the crab cap. aslo they have afront mount distrib. that some how runs on a belt drive from your cam for around $350 in jegs i think that the way im going with. kinda like the old crabie opti spark.(you know they suck i had one go back $1000 after new opti water pump labor)so dont be mad.

quite a few people have done it already, and not even using a crap-cap distributor.
