Old plugs gapped to .70, what difference woud this make?

Did plugs and wires this weekend. Car has 110k on the clock and with the original(what I thought) plugs and wires on it. The wires are original but I'm not sure the plugs were. They were gapped to .70. I'm wondering what difference this would make if any. I gapped the new ones to the recommended .50. So now have MSD Helicores and AC Delco triple platinums. Would there be any reason to gap them that far besides for NO2?

I would say the electrode was just worn. As for the NOS thing, I think they usually gap them closer, like .35.

Yeah I guess I didn't think about that. I also must not have been thinking when I said the thing about NOS either. I keep thinking colder=gapped more, but it's actually the other way around. Thanks for the input.

You need a different plug that is colder like a TR6 for N20. The stock gap is .050-.055.

Might just be a coincidence, but 0.070" is the gap you get with the stock plugs when one of the platinum pucks falls off . Based on my experience, is isn't all that unusual for them to fall off. If both the pucks fall off, it opens up to 0.100......

And remember... you are discharging upwards of 30,000V across that gap.... it wouldn't be unusual for the plugs to erode beyond the original factory gap.
