Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
Re: Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
Heads, cam, valves, valve springs, rocker arms, timing set, crank, pistons, pushrods, connecting rods. It depends what you want to build. Are you looking to stay stock or do you want to run lots of power naturally aspirated or with nitrous?
Re: Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
Lets just say I want to do this over a period of time and I want to do everything right and everything with the best (resonably priced stuff). but every thing needs to be done. I just dont' know what the best resonably priced stuff is.
Re: Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
Why eactly did you pull it? Did it run when you did? Otherwise you need to be dealing with a machine shop and trying to find the best route that way. (sorry trying to get background)
Re: Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
The best way to do that project would of been to buy a LT1 block used 200-300 bucks. build it then swap. Little down time. But yes. Figure out what you want to do with the car. Build the engine for that.
Re: Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
If its your first time overhauling an engine I would recommend that you give it to the pros. Youll save cash in the long run. I would pick up a junk small block from the yard to practice on. JMO
Re: Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
Heads are off oil pan is off to the cranck does not look as bad as I though and the cylider walls do not look bad either. The heads need to be cleaned up and so on. Now my question is: Should I go ahead and bore the cyliders out or forget that and concintrate more money on the heads cams and such. Is boring out the block going to gain me any horse power? And by the way my goal is to make the most HP the cheepest way possible. I think I am going to go with cc305 cam and 1.6 rockers springs stock push rods and lifters. and a new timing chain but do I need to do anything to the block itself??

You have to have the cylinders checked for roundness with a dial bore gauge by someone competent to see if there within factory specs. You should really take the block to a machine shop and have it checked out, It's relatively cheap.
did the eng run good ... no smoke no noise, how many miles on it,and what rpm range do you plan on running it in? mostly depends on how much money you want to spend, figure that out first
Re: Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
Well the 95z convertable has 140000 miles on it and I am not sure but it might have been burning oil and lossing compression. But after taking the heads off I saw that the pistons and the heads have a nice carbon build up nothing is silver anymore and there is a nice coat of varnish from the oil I am assuming. Based of what I have seen I am not sure this is normal wear for a angine with that many miles or if there is something wrong here. But I do want to do this once and do it right and not do it again. And while am at it I want to replace the cam rockers rockers, and all the moving parts. I guess I am wondering how much work I need to put into the block itself.

Best of Luck!
Re: Okay I got the Engine out of the Car now what?
i would have all new bearings cam bearings too, hone and re-ring the block, possible pistons too, have a shop do all that if you've never done it before or have an experienced helper, get a cam and heads to meet your rpm and hp needs along with the headers bla bla bla, how much money do you have for us to spend?
