ok to start w/ blown headgasket

Basically its in the title. I was told not to because it would hydrolock, but wasnt even there when it happened. They did say the headgasket blew then it ran like crap. Just wondering how many cons there would be to doing this.

having a blown head gasket does not necessarily mean it broke a rod by hydro locking - but it's one of a few different scenarios that could happen with a bad gasket - if it broke a rod you'd know it - one thing to try is roll it over with the starter with the plugs removed and see if you get a clunking or other strange noise

Are you asking because you want to troubleshoot or because you intend to drive it somewhere?

I'd rotate it with the plugs out if you are just wanting to make sure nothing is broken.
Running it with coolant in the oil is a good way to end up having to rebuild the whole motor.

If you have a milkshake on the dipstick it can take the bearings out within seconds.

I would not try it, you know its blown so no point in it.

I would pull the plugs first of all.

yes I was going to do it to trouble shoot. I was told not to run it because it could hydrolock. Someone told me that I can pull the plugs out and rotate it and if it was then coolant would come out. Is that the case? I just have not had it since it got back from the shop and I wasnt there when it happened so im not positive.

Sure, you can rotate it (I'd do this with a wrench on the crank) with the plugs out
and the compression will force most of the coolant out of the chamber.
But you're still going to have to remove the heads to replace the gasket and
more coolant is just going to seep back in as soon as the piston starts heading back down.
