Ok now I think I messed up my MAF, here are the symptoms..

I had a thread earlier about The wrong hose breaking when I was doing a TB Bypass but I taped it up since it was a clean break so I don't think that is the problem. The car was just fine yesterday. I took apart the MAF to clean the metal ends. I put the MAF itself on a chair, forgot it was there and accidentally sat on the part It was there for a few seconds and then I got up and noticed that it seemed ok. Those 3 small wire thingies were still there and seemed intact. But they might have bent. or something.

The car Starts just fine, but when I let go of the gas it just dies. The check guages light comes on after the car shuts off. I don't smell anything burning or any other weird smells, while I am hitting the gas it sounds just fine, when I let go of the gas, the rpms drop to 0 and boom it just turns off, no hesitation or anything. Again the only thing I did was with the MAF and that hose. Whatever few wires I disconnected I put right back. I have taken the maf out before a couple of times.

Any Ideas??

unplug the MAF and see if the problem goes away. Some people say their cars won't run with the MAF unplugged mine will and so will my buddies.

WOW!! Thanks! I just tried it and it works. Of course now the check engine light comes on. But what will happen if I keep running it with the MAF disconnected? I mean I am going to get a new one, but do I have to right now??

Thanks for your help, you rock!

Nothing bad will really happen if you run the car with the SES light on except the fans will run constantly. That is some unwanted wear and tear on the fans, but not really a big deal.

Its going to switch to calculating your air based on some of your other sensor readings. Which are not as accurate as a properly calibrated MAF.
With my car, unplugging the maf while the car is running will cut my car off. Running the car without the MAF works though just fine.

I guess I am lucky because my car will not shut off and it runs with it unplugged. Ok, so am I going to have to get a MAF for a 94Z? Or are all the LT1/4 pretty much the same from 94-97? I would assume there are some minor differences. I can get one but it's from a 95Z. I just want to make sure it does not have to be year specific.

Thanks again

All LT1 Fbody MAFs are the same. Note LT1 MAF's out of caprices and other non Fbodies aren't the same size. Vette ones may work too, but i know 94-97 Fbody ones are interchangable.
