ok, my turn to get cam! which one.

i have to have the heads removed so i was thinking what a perfect opportunity for cam. i still have stock manifolds, no headers for a little while.

Requirments
-work okay w/ stock heads (for now)
-streetable
-must pass CA smog
-around 400hp to the crank after tune and mac's
-would like fat midrange and good top end

info-
1994 M6 Z
CAI, cutout,free mods

I am thinking CC305 or LT4 hotcam

please share your opinions!
(oh yeah, chevy tech said engine needs to be pulled to install cam and remove heads) that is totally untrue is it not?

um... dunno bout pulling 400hp to the fly with just one of those cams and macs (it would be pretty close)... but for what you want either cam will work just fine. mho.

i have never heard if the 224/230 will pass california emissions but i know it will pass other states. My friend has it on stock heads and loves it. You may want to look into it.

The engine does NOT have to be pulled to remove heads or install a cam.
As far as I know Mac headers do not have a CARB E. O. number so they are not legal in California.
Many people have passed California smog with the LT4 hotcam and stock tuning. CC305 may be a bit tougher.
400 hp with just headers and cam is unlikely.

i would think the comp xe 224/230 would probably have less than overlap than those two cams thanks to the lobe ramps. I don't feel like figuring it though. Overlap is what hurts emissions most correct?

I went with the lt4 hot cam kit in my 96, and i love it. It is very streetable IMO. And i did not have the motor pulled to do it.

I like my cam and have the hp you want, but can't pass a smog test in Iraq!

Oh, you can change the cam without pulling the motor, but you must remove the radiator.

so how much better is the cc305 than the lt4 hotcam kit? also what kind of hp at the flywheel can be expected with A) 305 on stock manifolds B) 305 on stock manifolds and mac midlengths?
my goal is to have a car capable of mid twelves with a healthy mph. thanks for your input. gonna order cam on monday from cmotorsports.com and send in the pcm to pcmforless.com. i can't wait.

go with the 224/230 on a 112 i don't know the hot cam specs but i bet it will have less overlap than the hot cam i am pretty sure it will have less than the cc305 and you will make more power with it.

if you dont want to spend more than $600 then go with the hotcam kit.

if you want to spend around $700-$800 then go with something like the XE224/230. the duration of the cc305 is 220/230 but its an old school cam which had to be ground on a 114 LSA so it would pass emissions. the 224/230 will pass easier than the cc305 even when its ground on a 112. if you want that nice cam sound.. you wont get it with the cc305 like you would with the XE and hotcam.
