ok my oil smells like gas.
ok my oil smells like gas.
i left a post on here awhile ago about my oil pressure dropping real low while in drive at a dead stop and the RPMS dropping down near 600. I got alot of replies back of suggestions and what not. so far i changed the oil and filter and still having the same problem. I recently just checked the oil and i noticed it smells real faint like fuel. My question is where is this coming from and what do i do to stop this? the fuel getting in and what can my overal problem be? Ive only had this engine for about 1-2k miles it had 60 k on it when i got it put into my car. I never had this problem when i first got it back until i changed the oil to Royal Purple and now ive been having these idling and low oil pressure problems and now this smell. Dont know where to look or what to do.
A few possibilites are 1) running excessively rich, and fuel is washing down the cylinder walls, past the rings; 2) fuel pressure regulator diaphragm broken, and fuel it pouring into the intake manifold via the vacuum compensation line, and flooding the cylinders; 3) leaking injector is pouring fuel into a cylinder.
Check the fuel pressure, at idle and on shutdown.

You def. need to figure out whats going on with it before driving it further. Fuel in the oil can do some serious damage....ask me how I know
Mine was two inj. washing the cyl. walls but like injuneer said, it can be a multiple things that cause this.

mine did the same crap.... while my engine was running i pulled the vacuum hose off the FRP and gas was leaking out.. i went to napa and got a new one (60 bucks) installed it (30 mins) and all is good!!! no gas smelling oil!!!
I had same problem with a bad ground circuit that forced multiple injectors on for long duration than controlled by the PCM. Lucky I found the problem during cranking. Of course, I had alot of fuel due to running 72# P&H injectors. Dangerous "hydraulic-lock" condition that can break ring lands.
I also have had 2 FPR failures with the some fuel dump into the intake manifold. I lost fuel rail pressure and vehicle was hard to start.
I re-designed it. B.

what is the FRP? i recently pulled like 4 hoses off my engine that had slight cracks im going to replace them just dont know the name of them but im hoping i can find them at advance auto parts.
He meant FPR, aka fuel pressure regulator, which attaches to the back of your fuel rail.
Low rpm would cause low oil pressure. Sounds like you have a fuel leak somewhere. Does it smell like gas under the hood? If it does look around the injectors for signs of a leak. Maybe push a power towel around the injectors to see if it gets wet with gas. Use the paper towel to wipe around the FPR to see if it was leaking gas. If not, next pull on the fuel lines making sure they don't just come off without the tool (plastic round disk). Use the paper towel to see if the lines are wet. If everything seems dry but it still smells of gas maybe you should take the fuel rail off and check everything.
A little more info: You need to take the fuel lines off to take the fuel rail off. This is easy. First, loosen the gas cap so there is no pressure in the line. Then, use the second smallest gas connection disk tool (can be bought at any auto store) and push and wiggle it all the way into the metal gas line connection while pulling the connection back. You may have to keep wiggling the disconnection tool in while you pull the fuel line back. They will release a small amount of fuel when it disconnects (2 oz?). Then take the injector electrical connections off (mark them so you know which one is which) and remove the 4 bolts that hold the fuel rail on. You have to really pull the fuel rail off because the injector rubber o-rings are holding them in both the rail and the intake. Look at the rubber seals on the injectors and make sure none are ripped or cut. If nothing, next check the FPR for signs it was leaking (maybe just change it). That's all for now. You can probably find a write up somewhere if you need more info on something.
