OK. Last few questions before header install.

How long does it take to usually install a set of longtubes? Jet Hot to be exact. Do I NEED new motor mounts or can I get away with the ones I have. Only 25,000 miles on the car. Also I have heard of people having problems with the Y pipe not fitting with the trans crossmember. IS hooker my best bet for a Y pipe since noone around here can custom make one? What did you guys do to fix the problem of the Y pipe not fitting? thanks

about the ypipe, I ordered a BMR driveshaft safety loop, and that comes with a dropdown bracket and mounts where the stock tranny cross member is. It will allow you room for the ypipe.

Could you get me a link where I could find this? What was the price on it?

OK. I don't feel like spending another 100 bucks for the driveshaft loop. What are my other options incase something goes wrong? Main concern is how long will the header install take and how hard is it?

I've got Jet hot's and a hooker y pipe, fits perfectly. Oh and it took me about 30 hours or so, because I had problems getting the darn things in there.

30 Hours? Wow. Did you do your headers in the driveway? I am having a friend install them and he has a lift. IS it possible to install headers in under 7 hours?

My buddy and I installed AS&M headers on my 1994 camaro Z28.....Little tips to make your install easy, Remove the starter(only 2 bolts), Remove oil filter,Remove tranny cross member- put jack under tranny then lower "SLOWLY" just enough to remove old exhaust manifolds, Remove belt and altarnator, Remove air-pump, Clean "D" ports on head really good.

I have a set of Hooker long tubes and it took about 16 hrs. of work, mostly working by myself and no lift. Having a lift will make it alot easier getting the new headers in. Thuner Racing sells a y-pipe that made for Hooker long tubes that goes around the trans mount. http://www.thunderracing.com/index.c...yid=1052#T1458

It's the Mufflex pipe.

NO!! You're looking at about 14 hours at least. Even with a lift. Dual cat headers are no fun to take out.

It took me and a friend (who had done long tubes on LT1's a few times) about 16 hours to put my FLP's in. To say you need patience is an understatement. Good luck...

The shop I took my car to install my Jet-hot LTs only took 8 hours, and he never did them before. Then I drove it to the muffler shop and 1 hour later, I got a custom Y made Around 9-10 hourse total work I guess.

took from about 8 in the morning to like 3 or 4 to put my jet hots in, but that is with a lift and stuff. They are very hard to do without experience, and be prepared for stuff you need besides the y-pipe like old sensors and things like that. I had an oil pressure sending unit break off because the plastic was old. And the plug wires need to be away from the headers or else they will burn and the car will run like crap. Check thunder racing.com for the taylor plug wire and wire loom kit so you can run the wires over the valve covers out of harms way.

You should be okay with the one's on the car due to your low mileage.

I did it all by myself for the first time ever. It took me a week of about 6 hours a day, i'd say a good 30 hours too, .

That was the longest, meanest, most time consuming, greasy, dirty, curse full job I have every undertaken. Have fun.

...Wow, putting on headers gets expensive really quick! I'm considering putting on headers and figured $4 to $5 hundred bucks {uncoated Hookers or coated Jet Hot's} and then after reading about installation extras on the forum..... Stage 8 bolts {they stay tight}, Percy's gasgets {to prevent leaks}, y-pipe, new oxygen sensors and extensions, BMR driveshaft safety loop {Y pipe clearance}, new motor mounts {for header clearance}, Taylor plug wire loom kit {so wires don't burn}, might as well replace plugs while its apart.... Am I forgetting anything???
