Re: ok i feel dumb asking but...

The LT4 was a heads/cam setup similar to the LS1->LS6. The intake ports are a raised runner design, and are preferred to stock LT1 heads. A total of 129 1997 MY F-bodies came with the LT4 engine. 100 Special edition SS's and 29 Firehawks. The Corvette had it both in the Grand Sport model, and also the 1996 6-speed cars.

The LT4 hotcam kit is a kit put together by GM for showroom stock racing, its the best deal you can get for what it all comes with, and it does decent for a daily driver. Its basically a bigger cam/roller rockers/springs kit that is very affordable when you purchase it from a whole sale seller such as Jason Cromer or Dal Slabaugh.

Re: ok i feel dumb asking but...

The only dumb question is the one left unasked.

The LT4 was an LT1 derived engine that appeared in standard tranny equiped 96 vettes and a few SSs and firehawks also were blessed with the motor.

The LT4s from the factory came with 4 bolt main blocks and the LT4 heads and intake along with 1.6 ratio true roller rockers.

The heads are very nice peices, outflowing the LT1 heads in stock trim by leaps and bounds, ported their potential is also much greater than the LT1s.

Re: ok i feel dumb asking but...

LT4 isn't really like the LS1 at all. The idea is the same I guess - bigger head - more power. Like was said in this thread, the Lt4 head is a 195 cc intake runner raised port LT1 head. It also has 2.00 intake, and 1.6 exhaust valves. The LT4 intake was powdercoated red and port matched for the heads. The LS1 head is a completely different head from LT1 LT4's. Its a 15 degree head first of all and it is 205 cc on the intake runner with a completely different intake design.

I guess I wasn't clear enough. The LT4 is to LT1 what LS6 is to LS1.

It was pretty clear to me what you meant LT4 is to LT1 : LS6 is to LS1

A couple of other corrections:

LT4 valves are 2.00" I / 1.55" E

The LT4 intake manifold is NOT port matched to the heads. While the LT4 head intake runner has a 0.100" taller port, the ports on the LT4 intake manifold are identical to those on the LT1 head. There is more metal at the top of the intake manifold runner to allow it to be ported to support really good LT4 heads, but from the factory, its not port matched.

Here's a link to a good "LT1 vs. LT4" comparison:

Re: ok i feel dumb asking but...

That's what I meant - the port is higher and the intake port on the intake matches the higher head port. No, the factory doesn't port match the intake! I stand corrected on the exhaust valve size though.
