Is It Ok To Drive My A4 Home After 3.42 Gear Change Without Programmnig

im going from 2.73 to 3.42. im going to get the pcm programmed, but can i drive it home from the shop without programming? i was thinking maybe i could manually shift it and keep it in 3 and go slow. is this not a good idea?? thanks in advance!

You should be fine. The RPM is measured before the rear end gears so your shift points should not be affected. Your speed will appear much higher though on your speedo (approx 25% higher) then what you will be really travelling at.

Thumbs up

You should be fine.I went from 273's to 410's. I had to program my pcm for speed to be right, but didn't touch the shift points.

I drove about 20 miles back home after I went from 273's to 323's. I hurt nothing by doing this, but my speedo was reading like 50 when I was going maybe 25-30.

I also agree that the shift points are governed by MPH, throttle position, etc.. not RPM..

As long as he does not go WOT on the way home or until he gets it reprogrammed it should not matter.
