Oiling problem

First off I just noticed that my oil pressure is not has high as it used to be. When the motor is cold the pressure is good(gets as high as 60psi) and when the motor is at temp it's good at idle and regular driving but under wot it will drop a little and stay around the 40 psi mark. I just installed a new oil pressure sending unit last year the same time I did the cam swap. The last couple of time I ajusted my rockers I noticed while the motor was running one of the pushrods had alot of oil flowing out compared to the rest of them. I have seen this on two different pushrods and by the time I had the rockers adjusted it had went back to normal. Is this anything to be concerned about and what do you thing is causing my oil pressure problem?

Thanks Shayne

Re: Oiling problem

It's normal for oil pressure to fall back from a cold engine when at normal temp.Evaluate what oil you are running and the weight. It may have enough miles on the engine to think about 20/50W.
Hyd lifters sometimes do strange things to the oil coming through the pushrods.I don't think that's a worry.

Re: Oiling problem

The problem is that the oil psi dose not climb with the rpm past 3500 rpm, it just dips a little and stays around 35 to 40 psi. While normal city driving the gauge seems to jump around more then usual. At idle everything is good.

Re: Oiling problem

20/50 is at best a bandaid for a serious problem.

First have you verified pressure with a mechanical gauge just to be sure. What oil have you and are you currently using?

Re: Oiling problem

I have been using 5W-30 but I'am going to try 10W-30. I don't think it's going to help much. I haven't checked with a mechanical gauge.

Re: Oiling problem

What brand? Oils even within the same 5w-30 rating can vary pretty widely in actual viscosity. Check out and compare a bottle of M1 vs. Amsoil of the same weight once, M1 tends thin Amsoil tends thick, not that that makes Amsoil better just means that 0w-40 or 5w-40 is the better choice if using M1 while 5 or 10w-30 Amsoil is a good choice. Once hot it is entirely possible that a 10w-30 could be thinner than the 5w-30 just depends on exactly what oils they are, in theory 10w is only thicker when cold and should be the same weight once hot, but viscosity ratings mean it falls into a range and which end of the range that oil hits is is what tells you which is thicker.

Been a lot of talk about this stuff on the Impala board lately http://impalassforum.com/noncgi/ulti...=007881#000001 a little more than halfway down a guy named Wayne gives a very good explaination of the whole weights thing. Might spend a bit of time here http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi as well, more than you ever wanted to know about oil.
