oil on spark?

ok i just pulled out #8 i think thats which one it was... the one next to steering column...

anywho the spark had a little bit of oil on it, and my dad said that's bad... how much oil is bad i mean there was hardly any on there just on the threads and hardly enough to get it out with my fingers...
but how much would be on there if the head gasket was blown?

and how much does head gaskets cost to replace... (probably have a mechanic do it cause i dont have the time)

and how much time would it take if i were to do it

You plugs should have no oil on them. Oil is an indication that your are getting blow-by pass your rings. If that is the case then you more than likely will need a rebuild. Have you checked you oil level? Typically when head gaskets go bad your car will smoke (white smoke) alot. There also may be an indication of coolant in your oil.

it all depends on what you want to do with the motor, how many miles were on the engine? some guys just buy a used motor from a junk yard or maybe go on ebay and look for a lt1 with low miles on it, sometimes even on here guys are selling there motors, or you can buy most of the parts and do the work yourself

If the oil was around the threads in the spark plug dont worry about it. For some reason a lot of LT1's I have run across do that if you crank it up to move it into the garage and the turn it off and change the plugs. Mine had oil on the outer threads over a year ago and I burn 0 oil.

I thought oil on the plugs was indicitave of valve seals. Any oil that gets into the chamber while the car is running should be burned off. any residual oil would be extremely minute. With the valve seals leaking, oil could trickle down the head to the plug.
