what does it mean when you pull the valve covers and the oil smells like gas? anything in particular or is that normal?

 

What does the oil look like? If there is too much gas in the oil it could really hurt the engine (diluted oil does not keep a good oil film). If its just a little compression bleeding mixture in the crankcase, it's fine.

A faulty injector could put fuel in the crankcase.
