Oil Sensor Switch...

How do I go about getting one of these? I have a bad oil leak, and I need to start eliminating spots for leaks. First I am going to nail the oil pan gasket and oil sensor switch.

Usually, where does the oil come from if you see it on the transmission and engine mount? Its not tranny fluid...

I see oil on the switch, oil pan, transmission, oil filter, TOP of passenger side valve cover, NONE on the K Member, and a little (WHAT we saw...) on the rear of the intake manifold.

Re: Oil Sensor Switch...

The oil level sensor in the pan, you can get from a dealer or probably an auto supply store. The sensor seal can be bought separately at the dealer. GM p/ns are on my site.

As far as leaks go (and maybe why no one has responded), you just have to clean up everything an then try to track it down. Dye added to the oil may help. Movement of the oil by air currents under the car can disguise a leak's location. Not really a way anyone can tell you where a leak is without looking at it in person.

Re: Oil Sensor Switch...

The oil sensors tend to leak through the sealing material that the wires go through. Replacing just the gasket wont fix it. I got my new sensor from gmpartsdirect.com. It is exactly the same size as the original but it is all plastic where as the original had a metal case. The new sensor came with a new gasket in the box.

Re: Oil Sensor Switch...

Thanks fellas... so I just need to drain the oil (Just do it during an oil change) and then just replace? Ratchet the bolt out... then just tighten the new one in? Thats it?

The nut sticking out towards the drivers side on the oil pan... thats the low oil sensor right?

The Oil sending switch... are they hard to replace? Expensive?

The sensor is long, so after you unthread it, you have to come a ways straight out. It's on the LH side of the oil pan. Releasing the clip on the harness connector can sometimes be a pain. I think I used a small, thin screwdriver to get to it.

25 ft lb torque for the sensor.

Re: Oil Sensor Switch...

I just replaced mine last week, If you have the stock y-pipe. The sensor is to long it hit the y-pipe. I had to unbolt the y-pipe too have enough clearance. It might be possible to get it in there without unbolting the y-pipe but you take the chance of breaking the sensor. I decided to just unbolt the y-pipe took around 30min. to do.
