Question What to do when replacing lifters?

My lifters are making alot of noise now and I'm thinking about replacing them. What all do I need to do to replace them? Can I just replace the lifters without replacing anything else? Which lifters should I go with, Comp? I was also planning on installing roller rockers at the same time. I wish that I had the extra cash to do alot more, but lifters and roller rockers are all that I can afford for the time being. Any suggestions will be great. Thanks

Try having them adjusted or adjust them before replacing. Go to Shoebox's site and get the procedure.

Ok, I just looked at shoebox's site. Which method do you think works best?

If you have no experience with the "spin" method, use the engine running method.
People have had trouble with the spin method,it takes practice.
Put a towel over the rockers to cover the ones you are not doing and only pull one cover at a time.Do it in the yard or put something under the engine as there will be oil spillage,

Is this a common problem?

Ajusting the lifters and rocker arms. The tapping noise.

My car has about 115K on it right now. If I do end up replacing the lifters which ones should I go with?

A constant ticking noise that fades in and out that has progressively worse. Also a few shops have told me that it's what the noise is. Even G-Force told me that. I thought that I'd adjust the rockers first.

Am I missing something? He says he is plannning on RR, but everyone is suggesting that he adjust the RR. That will not help the fact that his lifters are ticking, if he doesn't have RR. Replace them, do a search Mindgame just posted some really good info on lifter and how to properly prep them. Then go to shoebox's site for the lt1 specifics from there, as to how to change them.

Re: What to do when replacing lifters?

They said that I can adjust the stock rocker arms to try and stop the noise. If it doesn't fix the noise then I'll replace the lifters and add a set of roller rockers.

Re: What to do when replacing lifters?

Just tear apart the stock ones and clean them out. Also if you get any new ones, just go with the mellings that are sold at autozone. All of the "stock style" lifters are the same.
