Oil sender? Cluster? what is the prob?

ok after i had my engine rebuilt i noticed the oil pressure gauge was stuck. It is jammed all the way to the left like its maxed out. im wondering if its the sender or if its the entire cluster that i have to replace?

oh and is there a way to read oil pressure in the mean while so i at least have an idea of what the pressure is?

It's probably just the sender or a loose wire. Not too many other options to check oil pressure, unless you want to put in an aftermarket gauge in a pillar pod or something. Just fix the sender/wire and you should be fine.

they forgot to plug it in...

its right behind the intake manifold on the left side towards EGR thingy :P

when its not plugged in, or the unit is faulty, it will go all the way to max.... thats how mine is right now.... the thing is at such a place that i can grip it, but i cant twist my hand to get it out errrrr

so its stuck like that.... i put a new one in (just plugged the wire) and the sender went to 0 like it should...

so yeah anyways

they most likely forgot to plug it in

no man dont buy a new cluster, after you hook up the sending unit right the oil pressure should read on the guage. The same thing happened to me and it was just a bad wire comming out of the unit. Goodluck

Sorry to hijack thread but I have the same problem but with Z28 cluster in 96 Impala.

Anybody know the color of the wire off of the oil pressure sender that is pressure? My DMM is broken.

mike, call me at the shop in the morning 480-497-8811. there is a way to test if the sender is bad or if it is something else.

Mine is now fixed, the wire required for this wasn't installed on my custom wiring harness for 96 Impala to Z28 cluster.
A little soldering and it's all good.
Now I have to change the sender so that the pressure gauge is more accurate.

don't pay anyone to do it. it does not take that long to take the dash apart. i have done it quite a few times.

the cheapest place to look for a cluster is ebay or a junk yard.
