Re: Oil pump shaft collar

Get pump driveshshaft like this one. Better and cheap at Autozone. If you are referring the the pickup on the pump, I alway replace the pump and pickup. Some people don't.

Re: Oil pump shaft collar

I had to tap the pickup tube into the oil pump assembly using a rubber mallet. Took a few hard hits, but I used some assembly lube, and it went in very easily. The metal is pretty strong -- I dont think you're going to dent it.

Most people will recommend that you have the pickup tack-welded to the pump assembly, after you have it aligned properly. Dont want that thing to fall off...

Re: Oil pump shaft collar

yea i just went out there and used a wrench on the little collar of the pickup tube and hammered on the wrench and it went it, i dont think it will fall off, it is VERY tight, but i guess its better to b safe than sorry and the shaft just sits in there? thats how i have it and it seems good... but i wanna b sure, what do you guys say?

Re: Oil pump shaft collar

If I were you, I would weld the pick up. Just go to any exaust, body repair shop, give them $5, and get a couple weld seams. Just in case, quite a few people on this board had the pick up to fall out.

Re: Oil pump shaft collar

Before you weld it in place make sure you have about 3/8 of an inch between the pick-up and the bottom of the pan.

Re: Oil pump shaft collar

The shaft just sits in there. The camshaft drive assembly and bolt under the intake holds it from moving anywhere.
