Oil Pump Recommendations

I am looking to replace the stocke oil pump on my LT1 when I do my cam swap. Stock LT1 oil pressure has always sucked. What replacement oil pump (and pickup) do you all recommend? Part numbers would be helpful.

Thanks,

The stock pump should be more than adequate. Also, some high performance oil pumps actually give lower oil pressure to save horsepower.

If you're getting low oil pressure, you might want to check the engine more carefully before the cam swap.

The general consensus that I gathered when I searched this a bit ago was there's no reason to go with a High Vol pump or anything, just another stock GM pump, with the white high pressure spring.

Oil Pump - $64.85 - 12555283
Oil Pump Pickup & Screen - $9.45 - 12550042
Oil Pump White High Pressure Spring - $2.40 - 3848911

Those were the prices from Dal Slabaugh.

A stock pump or Melling M55 standard volume pump with a white spring as mentioned will give you all the oiling you will ever need. Make sure to get that pickup tube tacked on so it never falls off.

Just FYI, Autozone carries the standard-volume, 3/4" pickup, Melling M155 oil pump for $44.99.

Though, you'd still need to order the pickup/screen assembly, and the white pressure release spring.

I personally bought the Melling 10555 because it has a bolt on pickup. About the same price as the standard with a few choices of pickups. I red loctited the bolts as well as safety wired them. I just wanted to avoid welding on a new pump if possible. Just my 2 pennies. I think the sump numbers were 12557 for 7 inch pan, 12558 for 7 1/2 pan and 12559 for 8 inch. I think both together for me was about $60.
