oil pump pick fell off?

Ok, in continuation of my other thread. Basically when I come to a hard stop my oil pressure drops to nothing for a couple seconds and then returns to normal.
You guys said it sounded like the pick up fell off of the oil pump and that it just needs to be put back in.

So I called a shop and asked how much, he said a rough guess of about $500 for getting in there and a new gasket

But also said he didnt think that it was very probable that it was the pick up, said maybe it was the oil pressure sensor..?

You guys said I can get in there and check myself. Question is.. how much work is there to it? Is there more to it then draining the oil and removing the pan?

I really can't afford $500 right now for this and so it looks like I need to try and fix it myself.

Any help is really appreciated.

Consider that labor is anywhere from 55 to 75 an hour it doesn't take any time at all to reach $500.00.

I haven't done this, but I assume it is just a matter of dropping the pan (which I would guess takes some time since other things need to be unbuttoned too).

I'd certainly rule out other causes first.

If it is the pickup that fell off, be sure that it is "welded" back on.JHMO

It very well could be the pick up tube. It took me less than an afternoon to do mine. My pickup fell off as well, and I went ahead and replaced the oil pump too. For an A4, jack up the motor, for an M6, jack up the motor and lower the subframe 1-2"

To double check to see if it is for sure off....Drain all the oil out and then tap on your oil pan with a rubber malet. When mine had the same symptoms as yours, I did this and sure enough, I heard something banging around in there. Get it fixed quick too, Starving the engine of oil, can lead to spun bearings!
