Oil pump driveshaft gear broke. Rebuild?
Oil pump driveshaft gear broke. Rebuild?
Pulled out the pump shaft and about 25% of the gear was sheered off. My assumption is that the shards didn't continue to circulate through the engine since that stopped the oil from pumping.
I assume the oil pump is still good, but I want to do a pressure test using a drill to turn the pump and a mechanical gauge. I was thinking, in doing so, wouldn't that circulate the shards back through the engine. Is there a way to test the oil pump after I remove it from the engine?
Other than that, I plan to drop the oil pan, clean it up, and spray some brake cleaner down through the pump shaft hole. My other assumption is that I should just take off the center cap and check for bearing damage, and since I'm changing cams anyway, just look at the cam bearings once I pull it out. Does all this sound peachy?
