Oil pressure...whats normal?

My car runs great, has no problems, doesnt use any oil, etc. However, Ive noticed that it will not under any circumstance show more than 40 psi oil pressure... unless maybe I floor it on a cold motor which I would never do. Cruising above 1500rpm the gauge usually reads just under the 40 mark. A WOT run reads the same. Warm idle is right around [usually just under] the 20 mark.

like I said, the car runs great, but i get a little uncomfortable seeing the gauge read fairly close to the red at idle. Whats should my car be reading?/Whats normal?/What does your car read?

thanks

Warm idle @25-28psi.warm cruise at 2000rpm @ 45-50 psi.Cold idle@ 45-60psi cold cruise @60-65psi.Yours seems a little low.Try changing the sensor, mine picked up a little after breaking it.What oil do you use?Might want to bump up the viscosity.

Mobil 1 5w-30 i think ( whatever weight most everyone else on here runs ... I forget things like this at 1 in the morning after a party )

Just remembered I used a FRAM oil-filter on the last change I wouldnt be surprised if thats the culprit of the 2-3 psi Ive been lost since right around that time.

edit: oh, and where is this sensor located... and how much is a new one?

mine is exact to what u stated...40-55 on cold startup....warm idle 18-20....ALL other rpms and WOT 39-42 (no matter what)

I was told this is perfectly fine and normal...i switched from 5W to 10W though just in case......at idle as long is it isnt IN the red ur good.

What you stated is normal.

Most of these cars after warmed up will have 40 psig while cruising and around 20 psig while at idle. My 96SS is about 3-5 psig higher than that but the other LT1s I've had have had 40/20.

Heck at cold startup and cruise ive seen it go as high as 75 on mine! Just under maxing out at the 80 with 107K on the motor I run a AC Delco regular blue filter and castrold GTX 5-W30, I just went to castrol 5W-30 high milage and seems i gained 2-3 psi across the board
