oil pressure at redline....need some advice

Im plannin on taking my car to the track this wednesday and I just wanna ask a small question concerning oil pressure. The rule of thumb I have heard is that u should have 10psi for every 1000rpms roughly. My car while going to redline is prob around 50+psi but right at i get to around 6k rpms, the pressure drops to a little over the half way mark of 40psi. I run 5w30 full sythetic oil in my car if that helps any. With the talkings of spun bearing and such due to lack of oil pressure I dont want to have this problem. Am I good or should do i have a problem I should have looked at? thanks

Thats normal with a stock pan to lose a bit at/close to redline. No worries

Use 20W-50W and don't worry about it.Thin oil 1-3HP gain and likely spun brg.Thick oil no worries.

Cool Re: oil pressure at redline....need some advice

Under hard acceleration, foaming in the pan is possible. Try running 3/4 to 1 quart below the full line, essentially try runniing at your "add" mark. My car was losing pressure, but this fixed it, believe it or not Chevy Tech center suggested this.

Re: oil pressure at redline....need some advice

20-50 is possibly too thick and could pump up the lifters. Exactly what oil are you running 5w-30 full synthetic doesn't really mean much, if you are using M1 try a different weight like a Xw-40 or try another brand of Xw-30. The 5w-30 everyone seems to believe is the ulimate oil for the LT1 is actually proven to be a not so good choice. Don't mistake that for M1 being bad or 30wt. being bad, it is just that M1 30wts. are inappropriate for a hard use LT1. Try that while running the right amount of oil.

^ I agree with completely. My LT1 seems to LOVE Mobil1 0w40. Great pressure, no high rpm issues, etc
