Oil pressure questions????

I installed an LT4 Hot cam kit and new lifters into my '94 Z28, I got everything back together and I can't seem to get oil pressure. I put oil in the oil filter and I soaked the lifters in oil overnight before installing them. I did not manually prime the oil pump when I had the oil pump off, because I didn't know you could until after the manifold was back on. I pulled the PCM BAT fuse and have been cranking the engine to prime it, my problem is the oil pressure won't come up. How long, or how many times of doing this should it take to build oil pressure, because I don't want to hurt the bottom end? My oil pressure gauge worked before I started so I can't see the gauge being wrong. Also I put a post on here yesterday about the oil pump drive assembly and it should be in right, its all the way in and bolted down. Any ideas on why I'm not getting oil pressure would be appreciated.

My car did the same thing...I sat there for 30 seconds with the fuse out. nothing, then I put in the fuse and fired it up and WOW i had 80 PSI oil pressure All I can say is put the fuse in and try to start it. If there is no oil pressure shut it off and make sre the oil pressure sening unit isnt broke and the oil pump drive is in.

Re: Oil pressure questions????

Your not going to get any PSI by cranking it. I barely see a rise using my mechanical guages. Just start it up. The first few seconds of start up are bone dry usually so a few more seconds of bone dry won't hurt it. If it doesn't come up then, you go problems

How long can I run the car with no oil pressure without doing damage? 10 seconds?

Re: Oil pressure questions????

I crossed my fingers this morning and fired the car up, and waited a couple of seconds and just as I was about to shut it back off, the needle came up and I got oil pressure. Thank you everyone for the help.

Told ya

You can literally run your engine for almost minute or so before I would shut it down due to no pressure.
