oil pressure questions?

I have 1993 Ta, sometimes my LOW OIL LIGHT comes on and then it goes away, automaticaly. I always check my oil level and its allways full. My cars oil pressure at idle is arround 20-30 psi and while driving is 50- 55 psi.
IS THAT NORMAL? AND if its not normal then wat should be idle oil pressure at idle ? and wat should be oil pressure while driving?

Oil pressure at Idle is rated at about 6psi@1000 Rpm. The low oil light is operated by the low oil module connected to a switch on the oilpan. Oil pressure is also dependent upon temp. and weight of the oil. Above Idle at higher rpm's it should be 30 to 40 I guess.

Low oil level sensor maybe bad, pressure at idle should be about 20psi, and cruising about 35-40mph is around 40-45psi. Yours sounds normal.

Mine too, but that's what the book says. Stock guages aren't 100% accurate.

'93's usually register higher oil pressure than '94-up. I think this might be because the sender is in a different location. Ours is right above the oil filter...Not on the top back of the block like '94-up. Mine has 70 # cold at idle, and registers 55 # hot, while cruising at 50 MPH. Hot, at idle, it holds around 40 #. This is with 10 W 30 petroleum based Pennzoil (not synthetic). My bottom end has almost 95,000 miles on it.

If you have 6 psi at idle, you have problems. You should have a minumum of 10- 15 psi to even think about driving the car. Mine holds 35-40 psi at hot idle, but i have a high volume pump. Oil pressure is good. 6 PSI is bad.

That's right out of the book(Chiltons). But I don't know of anyone that has that low of a pressure unless there is actually a problem. I did say that mine runs at 20 like most but like I said that's what the book said. I didn't write it.

i may only be a junior member, but as long as you have pressure and it is not in the red you are fine, but stock gauges can also be off. in my 89 camaro the stock gauge reads about 25 at a warm idle but with the autometer inside it reads close to 35 i think i trust the autometer, those numbers are also with a high pressure pump

Not only does the chiltons say 6 but The GM severice manual sais minimum operation oil pressure is 6PSI at 1000 RPMS. but like so many people said, at operationg temp F-bodys usually are at about 20 at idle. mines about 30 since i switched to a oil to air oil cooler and added an oil accumulator.

At operating temps mine is at 15 PSI at Idle according to my Autometer Gauge. AT WOT it hits 55 PSI. I may be a touch low but for as hard as the stock bottom end has been beaten on, it's still good.

Can you tell me where that is in the GM manual. I couldn't find it. But then, I was real tired when looking for it.

Mine was at about 6psi at hot idle, then I started reading about oil filters and such. Got rid of the Fram, and got a Napa brand. My oil pressure is now up to where everyone elses is (~20 psi at idle). Just a thought. (I am still using 5W30 though).
