oil pressure question
oil pressure question
ive been doing some searching and cant seem to find quite what im looking for. when i am driving the oil pressure increases or deacreses with the rpms. is this normal? i had a mustang prior to the camaro and the oil pressure didnt move at all. the pressure gauge is usually around half or below unless i am accelerating in which case it climbs above half. perhaps this is a stupid question, just wanted to make sure im not hurting anything. it is a 6 speed 1994 z28.

How many miles are on the motor? Mine has 130k on it and acts a little funny. Doesnt go below 20psi though at idle. (With German Castrol 0w30) Through the rpm band though I never see it fluctuate. Whens the last time you changed your oil? What weight? etc. etc.
Re: oil pressure question
I've had the same thing in my car since I bought it at 80,000 miles, the pressure goes up with the rpms and decreases with the rpms. Don't really know why, or if it's normal, but I'm at 105,000 with nothing broken.
Re: oil pressure question
I Am Almost 100% Sure That It Is Normal. I Wish My Oil Pressure Was Always That High. As You Accelarate Your Oil Pressure Is Supposed To Rise And If Its At The Middle Then Its Fine. But Keep Checking Up On The Post And Someone That Knows a Lot More Will Give You A Good Response Why...
Re: oil pressure question
Its normal. The oil pump is basically a "fixed displacement" pump.... the faster it turns, the more oil it pumps. The more oil it pumps, the more pressure drop is experienced in the oiling system. Pressure will increase with RPM, until the set pressure for the pressure relief spring in the pump is exceded. Then the pressure will hold constant at the spriong pressure, about 60psi in a stock LT1.
