Hey guys,
My oil pressure is dropping to the 1/4 mark on the gauge when i go WOT. But it stays right at 60psi when im just cruising around. Could it be that my oil sending unit is going out?
To my knowledge, nothing has been changed on the car as far as the sending unit, pump etc etc goes.

 

just a silly question, but have you checked your oil level. sounds like your low on oil and its sloshing to the back of the pan or getting pumped up to the topend and nothing left to pump. did you ever change the oil pump? if so, did you weld the pickup on? If not theres a chance it could have fallen off and its laying in the bottom of the pan.

 

I had this exact same problem with my 94 trans am, at WOT the oil pressure would drop dangerously low. Along with this problem I had noticed that my oil levels would fluctuate with my coolant levels.
check to see if you are having the same problems with your fluid levels.

When i discovered my fluid levels were fluctuating I automatically ripped my top end off and discovered a tiny little head gasket leak on both sides of the motor. While I had my motor out I also replaced my oil pump.
Therefore I am not sure if this head gasket leak was just a coincidence with the low oil pressure, or whether the pump was just on its last legs. I had 196,000 km on the original engine. After replacing the gaskets and the oil pump there have been no issues with my oil pressure.

So i would advise you to check your fluid levels as this may or may not be related. Let me know what you find.

 

the oil level is fine......
and to slowmocomotion....ill check my fluids and see what comes up...who knows i might just need to swap out the pump and put a new sending unit on it.
