Oil pressure drop at higher rpms
Oil pressure drop at higher rpms
I have searched and searched, but I wanted to get someones opinion on my setup. My oil pressure seems to drop at WOT and even if I take off somewhat hard. If I take off easy or rev the motor in neutral, I have no problems.
Oil pressure:
Cold Idle: 60-65 PSI
Hot Idle: 25-30 PSI
Hot Cruise: 40-45 PSI
WOT will climb to 60, then back off to about 30 PSI and that’s when I freak out and let off the gas. After that it climbs back to normal pressure. If I take off hard but not full WOT, oil pressure will drop at around 4- 4500 rpms but will not go as low as 30 psi.
I have the stock oil pan, the windage tray was left in there, Jegs 23501 Standard Volume pump with 65-70 quick relief spring installed, a melling 55S1 5/8” pickup that has been installed correctly and tack welded in, 5 quarts of Valvoline 10w-30 and a standard Wix oil filter. Motor has 260 miles on it. Stock oil pressure gauge.
Any suggestions on where to start? I have read smoe threads where people claim this is normal for an early LT1
but this makes me nervous as hell.
Thanks,
Rob
