oil pan replacement
Re: oil pan replacement
For me it was removing the engine mount bolts and then rear crossmember from the transmission, I then lifted the front of the engine with a floor jack and then placed the bolts back into the engine mount brackets and then had to remove the y-pipe. I then had just enough room to remove the pan and reseal it.
Do not freak out when jacking up the engine, You have to really get it up pretty high to get the pan off, I also had to remove the access cover from the trans that covers the flywheel-flexplate. It will be a tight fit when getting the pan off, I also had to remove the starter.
I have do it on a couple of lt1's, I have even installed rod and main bearings and cam bearings with the engine still in the car.....It was real fun doing them cam bearings!!!!

Re: oil pan replacement
basically remove the 2 long motor mount bolts and lift the front of the motor up as high as it will go. Remove everything else thats in the way, don't forget the low oil sensor, also rotate the engine by hand so the front counterweight isn't clockblocking the pan from slipping out. It's honestly not too bad.
Re: oil pan replacement
Changed my oil pump they way theyre telling you. Drop the y-pipe, take motor mount through bolts out, lift engine untill it almost touches the cowl/firewall. you may have to turn the crank to get the counter weights up in the block. Just take your time and get some light in there so you can see what you need. Should slide out fairly easy.
I also swapped my pan for an early 90s Chevy truck pan to get rid of the oil level sensor. Same pan otherwise, just for reference.
