which oil pan/pickup/windage trey/main studs for a 383?

canton 13-080T seems to be what I need for a 383 in a 95Z. is that right? what p/u tube fits that? #20 080 and do I then need the dipstick? @20-850 ?

which windage trey do I need to fit this? I know the diamond scrapper will work, but its $85. any others out there that will work good, and fit right in? esp. w/o modifying.

and, can I use the standard 4 bolt main stud ARP kit for small chevys?

thanks in advance all.

I went with the canton 242T, I like it, granted I don't have a 383 but it fit great and was a nice design with the baffels and built in windage tray. I purchased mine through Nu-tek motorsports, they ensure there are no leaking welds and they flush mount the oil level sender so LT's fit. I know there are alot of negative feedback about Canton but I like this pan alot.

I also went with the melling high volume oil pump and pickup (-020 i believe). These components work well together.

Im running the same setup on my 383..I opted not to use a windage tray since the Canton includes all the trap doors,etc..So far so good after 1+yrs..

The 242T pan is the new revised pan for the LT1 I think the one you are talking about canton 13-080T had a lot of issues with leaking. The new pan does not have these issues. I have the 242T on my 383 no problems here or leaks. I have L19 bolts on my eagle hbeam rods so the pan had to be clearanced if a few places. But I would not of had a problem if I used standerd bolts. You can see a picture of the pan on my engine On my car domain site in the sig on page 2

cool. thats exactly why i made this post. incase that wasnt the best choice of pans. and, damn, those L19 capscrews are huge. I have eagle Hbeam rods too, but with the standard ARP screws. thanks chris

Oh and the way the pan is made at the bottom of the pan. If you have an aftermarket starter it may not fit even if it is adjustable. I have a CRV starter it barly fits.

I stilll have the stock starter. dont see a reason to upgrade that. even if it goes out the stock starters are high torque and lightweight. apprec. the warning though. so the 242T pan will work w/my melling HV pump/pickup then right? does it come with a windage tray? how is it built in? anyone got any pics of inside the pan? whats the cost and where is the best place to buy it? I looked on a bunch of websites, and they dont list canton oil pans at all. havent tried calling any of them yet. and what main studs are you guys using?

You can to this link and view the pan. But it is the old style pan.
http://www.ls1speed.com/catagory.cfm?catagory=engine
They show a picture of the old style but they sell the new one
Not really sure about your pump and pickup. You might ask them at Speed inc and see what they recomend. I used the canton standerd volume pump and pickup for my engine. I got mine from them and I got really good custmer service.
Some Features Are:
3 Trap Door Baffles Removeable One Way Screen Windage Tray Built-in Crank Scraper Oil Temp Fitting Magnetic Drain Plug 20mm Fitting For Low Oil Warning Sensor Works With Stock Starter
The pan is 280.00 Well worth the money in my opinion

I am surprised the Canton oil pan basher has not found this thread.

man, I tried to set the stock oil pan in place today w/the rotating assem. still preassembled to see how bad it hits. seems I would have to bang out the pan for each rod and /or each crank counterweight. $300 is really expensive for me, but I cant see how the stock pan would even work. so the canton pan doesnt require beating to make it fit/clear even though its on a 383, not a 350 as the website lists it for? also, that website lists a 244T. I'll have to call them I guess.

Re: which oil pan/pickup/windage trey/main studs for a 383?

Yes the canton pan should clear all the rod bolts unless you have the L19 bolts and if you did I only had to clear mine in 4 places with those bolts. It is not cheap but it is a great pan to have if you drag or road race. And is even better if you are going to run a HV oil pump. I used the standared but high pressure.

Also did you have to clear the pan rails on the block? You will need to see if you need to clear the oil pan gasket you proable will. What bolts did you use for your rods? I do know that they told me I would not have to clearance my pan but since I used the L19 bolt that changed everything. If you do deside to clearance your stock pan. Place it on the block and have some one turn the motor over a couple times while you have your hand on the top of the pan. And see if you feel any vibration at all. If you do . You still need to do more clearancing. Hope this helps

Also racenet has them on sale for 259. but I would ask them at LS1 Speed if they could price match. Racenet does not have the best rep.

well, Im gonna give it a shot this mourning. do I just use a hammer to bang out the areas where the contact is made? the way you described it is what I did to check how bad it was. and Im using the stock arp bolts 8714 or somthing like that. small diam. head. Im worried that the oil pan will leak after I do all that bangin and tweaking on it.

Good evening guys! Saw all the questions...got some answers. Looking on the internet for canton isn't hard...go to their main website cantonracingproducts.com
All their stuff is right there! The 242T is a great pan. It's for road racing...go into that section and look up the pan. They really make it easy to get all the parts, they are listed right there with the pan. If I recall, they have a couple of pickups for HV, just depends on the pump you have. Geez, they have dealers all over. Call canton up and ask them. They'll hook you up.
And to the 13-080 (a drag pan) and the leaking problems people are belly aching about...how many that leaked were installed by someone who wouldn't read a piece of paper or pick up a phone and ask for help. It's okay men out there to ask for help...especially on something so important.
You'll do good with the 242t...go for it! Have a good three day weekend!
Annie
