oil pan gasket

Hey Members,
I have an annoying leak coming from the upper right rear
corner of my oil pan. I followed directions from Felpro and it still leaks. Does
anyone know what brand sealant to use at these corners of the pan and
where exactly to apply. I have also torqued the side bolts to 8Ft lbs. and
the end bolts to 15ft.lbs. Thanks

Re: oil pan gasket

Always hard to help when you don't have a signature. The 1994 factory manual shows the oil pan bolts as:

Sides - 100 lb-in (=8.3 lb-ft)

Corners - 15 lb-ft

Make sure you have the reinforcement strip on both sides.

Seal with GM P/N 1052914 extending 1" in either direction from the block/front(or rear) seal) junction. That part number probably doesn't exist any more. Check the "the Right Stuff (heavy duty)" from Permatex.

If you are posting from a phone, some apps do not automatically append the "signature" to your post. In that case, you need to provide the BASIC INFO about your car in each post. Failure to do that just irritates the people trying to help you.

Re: oil pan gasket

OP

I have always used permatex black "ultra" RTV with no leak issues

are you sure there was not a small metal washer between the gasket & pan in the corner.......I have seen this when someone removed their old gasket which left the imbedded corner washer that is actually "in" the pan gasket...needless to say he had a leak

if you were sure the bottom of block was clean, wipe with acetone (same for pan) and apply RTV at the corners where timing cover and RMS cover angles meet (curved part meets flat part)

and on another occasion the RMS mounting plate gasket was bad and the leak "looked" like the pan gasket. Used oil dye to chase the leak origin after replacing pan gasket...PIA but finding the source of th eleak is key so just confirm leak is from pan. oil migrates down so confirm source of leak before swaping parts
