Oil pan gasket
Oil pan gasket
I'm doing a clutch replacement and I've found out the oil pan gasket and rear main housing are leaking. The rear main housing can't be removed without removing the oil pan, correct? To raise the engine I know I can unbolt the engine mounts and put wood between them and the k-member, but were do I jack up on the engine with the trans out? It looks like if I jack up on the oil pan, the engine will not raise straight?
Replacement
There are some notches between the real main seal housing and the actual seal. Use a screwdriver to pry out the old seal. Lubricate the new seal and put it back in straight. If you do not have the installation tool, just get it started straight by and and gently tap with a small hammer going around the seal a little at a time until it is seated properly. No need to remove the oil pan or the rear main seal housing.
Follow-up
After re-reading you post I realize that it is not the actual seal that is leaking. Try to tighten up the two nuts on the back of the oil pan. That will draw the pan gasket back tight with the rear seal housing.
It looks to me that the rear main housing (my rear main seal came with a gasket for the housing) and oil pan gasket are leaking. Where would I hook on using an engine hoist? I don't see any spot on the intake manifold.
