Oil Pan Gasket

I've been working on the car now for about 5-6 hours with no luck. I've did a couple of searches and everyone says the same thing you [B]CAN[B] remove the oil pan and put a new gasket with the engine in the car (94 z28).

What am I doing wrong, I have went as far as to remove both motor mounts completely, lifted the motor as far as possible and even dropped the K-member down about a 1/2-1"...

I did see mentioned in one post that you might have to remove the transmission if it was an M6 (which mine is of course)??? Is this correct?

I have for the moment taken a break and plan to just feed the new gasket in around the pickup and clean everything well and hope for the best.

If anyone has any suggestions I am open to any and all???

sometimes you have to turn the crank by hand so the pan can clear

I have said before you can do it with the engine in the car....one thing I forgot to mention is I had the trans out when I did it.

Are you just replacing a leaking gasket? If so i'm sure you could fish it aroud, but you really need everything to be clean and oil free

make sure to take the oil sensor out too

Yeah, just an update, I did manage to get it fished around and got it dried off and everything clean...but thanks for verifying that I looked at it from every angle and the only thing stopping me was the tranny, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Now, we can get on to installing my pacesetter longs tubes, and the new dynaspark/ltcc setup.
