oil pan

I installed an melling HV oil pump when I was putting the new motor together and am now hearing that it could cause oil pressure probs and that I should get a bigger oil pan. I can get a good price on a new 7 qoart Moroso oil pan. Will this fit and can I use the melling pump I already have in?

Re: oil pan

Anytime you run a HV pump you need a new pickup. Either way you don't need a HV pump.

Re: oil pan

well I already have a new pick up for the oil pump, thats not the prob. The prob is with my new motor and new pump I have heard of people losing oil pressure on the stock pan, and although it hasnt happened yet I only have 315 miles on the motor so I dont really want to find out the hard way if I do lose the pressure. I guess I could just replace the pump but why not go with a deep pan and HV pump?

Re: oil pan

You need to make sure you have a windage tray in the pan.

Re: oil pan

the stock pan has the stock windage tray and the moroso has a windage tray. Should I try and run on the stock pan with the HV pump?

Re: oil pan

If you haven't hurt it yet you might be ok.... Usually it's the combination of a stroker crank, no windage tray, and a HV pump that cause the issues.

Re: oil pan

well its not a stroker motor and I still have the windage tray. Also right now the oil pressure is fine but my friend built a motor around the same time as me and now has about 500 miles on his and is starting to get pressure probs and we assumed it was the HV pump. You guys think I should stick with the stock pan or no?

may be you want to know that it's possible that your custom y pipe will not fit with a bigger pan, mine does not fit with a 6qt milodon pan.

Re: oil pan

why not buy a new standard volume pump. it will be alot cheaper, especially seeing as how you have to drop the pan either way.
