Oil level sensor leaks oil!!!!!! Anyone?
I assume its the oil lvl sesnor, its in the pan about half way up, has electrical connections. Anyways it leaks oil....is there supposed to be a gasket or anything? or is that washer under neath it a copper washer. I tried taking it out to look at it closer, but it just unscrews and then won't come out any further. I don't know if its leaking from around the washer or from the electrical connecter area. How much is this part to just replace? Anyone else have this problem? Maybe I could just take it loose again and silicone under it or something?
I've never seen one that didn't leak (at least a little)... not only can the blasted things leak where they thread into the pan, but oil can actually leak though the inside of the sensor itself! The plastic sensor is crimped inside of a hollow steel sensor casing (the bolt part that threads into the pan)... well, oil can leak through the steel and plastic part of the sensor. Next time you have it out, you'll notice that the plastic "guts" of the sensor rotate very freely inside the steel part.... you'll also notice that inside where the weather pack/harness snaps into (the pin area of the sensor) is filled with oil.
If you check your oil regularly like you should, go get a short bolt or plug with the right thread size and replace that leaky sensor

My low oil sensor was leaking from the electrical connector, replaced it with new one, noticed the old ( leaky ) one was metal and plastic assembly, the new one is all plastic and hasnt leaked yet in past 6 months. I think they have redesigned them to help cut down on leaks, but Iam not sure.
