Oil leaking from my passenger side head and i belive the timing cover gasket!!
does this mean i have a blown head gasket or should i worry not too much, but just check up on it every now and then till i have to time to change the head gaskets and all the rest??
i think im bout a half or maybe a full qrt low on oil, and just did oil change about 2-4 weeks ago!! maybe a bit more!!
also will i loose power cause of this?

please let me know ASAP!!

 

Put your car on a lift and shine a light on the rear of your intake at the corner where the head/block/intake meet...I'll bet you'll find your leak there and not your head..Mine did same thing...The oil leaked along the ridge where head meets block. It wasnt until I was doing my transmission did I see that the leak is from my intake...Most every small block developes a leak there...new intake gaskets and some gray GM RTV should do the trick...

well my car was torn down to put in the cam, got the heads surfaced, and smaller head gaskets!! but you think that rtv didnt seal good enough or the shop didnt seal the intake gasket good enough? and now its leaking again?
also can i just run my finger on the back of the intake near the head and see if i can get oil? if so then its leaking again huh!! also oil is just running every under neath the car, tranny pan, starter, on the ac compressor!! and o2 sensors!!

There is no oil under pressure in the head. There is only oil drainback that goes from the rocker area into the lifter valley.

You know that oil that squirts out of the pushrods and onto the rockers and valve springs? It has to go back to the pan somehow. It drains back on the surface on each end of the head and returns to the lifter area. Then it drains back toward the pan from there. No pressure, just gravity.

 

does it spray all the way back past the tail end of your tranny? mine is getting oil all the way back there and i cant find where its coming from

 

yep!!!! even on my tranny mount one time!! its just the wind that blows it back there!!! but where is it comming from!! valve cover gaskets are ok...wait a minute........i mihgt have found out what it oculd be..but id have to look later! but you know when you delete the egr plates in the rear and the one on the passenger side!! well i got the plate for the egr vavle, but not hte passenger one and what i did was get the stuff you mix the black and tan stuff to make that dark grey stuff that hardens ( forget the name) and i put in all insde that tube and then squezed the heck out of it and shut it closed while it dryed!! you think oil could be leaking from that thing? causing all the oil everywhere???

 

Oil would not leack from the EGR tube.

is the oil coming from the front of the motor, or the back? You said it might be coming from the timing cover which is front, or egr which is back.

Is it coming from the front of the oil pan?

When your cam was installed, was the motor pulled or was it done with the motor in the car. The mechanic may have riped the oilpan/timing cover gasket. VERY easy to do if the motor was on the car and will definatly give you a leak.

You also need to check the water pump drive seal. Another very possible source of the leak if its coming from high up on the timing cover.

 

actually i think its comming from the front of the timing cover, and yes the engine was in the car when it was done, but i also have oil on the back of my ac compressor!!

 

yea my timing cover is leaking but i dont know, it doesnt look big enough to spray all the way to the y-pipe, plus its been doing that since i got it, but the oil in the back is recent. i also have oil on the passenger side of the pan, i was thinkin it was the dipstick tube, but how would it spray all the way back there even with the wind

 

o yea its getting my primaries to smoke on the passenger side but it looks higher than the bottom of the dipstick tube, because i watched it while a friend revved the car up till i saw the primaries above smoking, but still dont know WHERE the **** its coming from

 

well i dont have my dopstick tube bolted in, cause of the LTs i have!! so its just in there snug tight hopefully.......i check it everynow and then!! you think it could be comming out of the dipstick tube and spilling all over my starter and other parts!! thats wht im thinkng!!

 

Thats got to be your valve cover. There is vent hose that goes from the Pasenger side valve cover to the TB. Make sure its in its hole.
