Oil leak, where?, and why just down the passenger side???

Oil leak, pretty good one too but it coats the exhaust, bellhousing of the tranny, trans pan, cat converter, all the way back to the passenger side rear floorboard. What the hell could be leaking this much? Rear main? I can't see/feel anything on the back of the intake so i'm pretty much ruling this out.

I'm pretty sure that it's the rear main, and i've bought a new seal, but has anyone ever encountered one this bad and why does it just blow down the passenger side??

with it just being down the pass side i would think that it was the intake leaking as they are notorious for that. but if you felt back there and it was dry then i am clueless. best think i can tell you is to clean it all up and check on it everyday and see where the oil is origninating from

It's definetly engine oil. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of cleaning it and checking, i'm losing oil like crazy. Steady drops when I stop, almost to the point of a stream. The starter is covered in oil, the whole top of the tranny, passenger floorboard, exhaust, crossmember, etc....

Gotta get this tranny out of the way, may as well replace the seal since I have it. May get a better view of the back of the intake as well.

I had the same problem...Valve cover...the back corner...pull off a plug wire and look to see if oil is there. also the best way to tell run your hand on the back of the intake, if it is wet then it is your intake..If not run it along ur valve cover in the back and try the bottom as well. I will almost promise you it is your valve cover...Like I said I had the same problem changed everything except the valve cover gaskets...Got some new valve covers and gaskets and WOW it is gone So my guess is the valve covers

Re: Oil leak, where?, and why just down the passenger side???

I had the same problem. Removed my intake, no leak. I then felt the back side of my valve covers, no leak. I then decided to build me a 383 since my motor has 160k miles on it anyhow. I am in the process of removing all hoses/wires and I lift the car up on jacks, clean the oil pan and tranny from all the oil and I find that the oil pan where it butts up to the tranny has a leak. My whole undercarage is covered with oil. It took me 2hrs of straight cleaning to be able to tell where the leak was coming from. I would personally just clean the oil pan and tranny and kind of push on the oil pan cover and see if you see any oil seeping out of anywhere. Thats how I found mine.

Good luck with it!
