Is my Walbro pump defective?

I have been having some major fuel press problems since my walbro 255lph,
its running 83-85 psi and I cannot get the pressure down to nowmal range! I swapped my stock regulator for a Holley adjustable unit and it did absolutely nothing to help so I figured it was defective and returned it for a new one,
yesterday I installed the new one and I am having the same problem!!

So now I am starting to loose my cool with this problem!! could it be thyat my pump is defective and is stuck on full power and pumping like mad all the time?

I bought this pump from Brook (AggieZ28) it was brand new and I belive he was planning to run a SC'ed motor with this pump b4 he sold it to me, could this be a high pressure version of the walbro pump? or can the high and low pressure versions both be used on a mostly stock LT1 hoping to run my NOS when this prblem finally gets worked out.

can anyone who has had this problem or knows the solution help me out please.

Thanks!

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

I’m using the high pressure version for over a year now and set the fuel pressure at 40 psi with my hypertech regulator. I’ve installed one on my friends 95 Mustang the other day and it’s running fine. Check your return line it could be bent and restricting the fuel flow to the tank.

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

With no regulator, ALL pumps are going to push out 100+ psi. Its the REGULATOR's job to keep the pressure down. Replace yours with a new STOCK regulator. Holley's are junk

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

I see you have an NOS wet kit...I assume it's like the NX kit in that it just grabs fuel off the rail and passes it to a solenoid, but just in case, does it have anything else that works with the fuel system? I only ask because I've heard the dry kit uses some sort of pressure enhancement.

Ohh, and are you sure your gauge is correct?

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

My kit is not installed yet because of all these probs that I am having and yes it does take the fuel from the rail, the car isnt running well so I assume that the gauge is correct and also b4 the engine is running I can play with the reg and relive the pressure from the fuel rail and it all regiters on the gauge,
It seems to be that when the motor ( fuel pump) is running that the probs start

A new stock regulator is ~$50-60.

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

Great but How can I be sure that it will be the answer to my problems? is there any tests that could be done? because I cant afford to waste any more money on trial and error.

Thanks!

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

The regulator is the only thing that can cause such a problem.

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

That would make sense, but I dont see how its possible. Whether you flow 1000 gpm or 250 gpm, the regulator would still do the same job and keep fuel pressure to X psi

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

The only thing I could now think of is if my mecanic some how managed to pinch or crush my fuel return line while doing the swap and that is restricting the flow back to the tank, but since i didnt do the install I don't know where it could be crunched is this a comon thing or is there a plcae with a flexiable line where this could occur?

Re: Is my Walbro pump defective?

I guess it's remotely possible, though unlikely.
