Oil leak questions

I changed my fuel filter today, and good god, there was oil ALL OVER the bottom of my car

My tranny was covered in it, and it even went back almost to the fuel filter

If the oil pan were to leak, would it just drip down, or would (maybe wind) it get all over everything else?

I couldnt figure out where it was leaking from.. it's ALL over the underside. But I havent been losing oil since I switched from mobil1 synthetic (which was gone in 3 months) to non synthetic.. been a good 4 months on regular

Any tips/ideas?

Blast all the old oil with Decreaser... wipe it all off..
Put GM ultraviolet dye in your oil and drive it for 25-50 miles. jack it up and try and see if it starts from the front of the car or starts at the back.
Use an ultraviolet light in a dark garage to follow the trail.

It can come from teh opti spark o rings. Just put the UV light there and look for a ring of UV oil...

Also u can jack up the car clean all the old oil off.. Start the car and watch to see where its dripping.. .

ZDriver96 is telling how it is. If you were to take it to a shop they would more than likely do the same thing but not drive you car 20 miles, more like around the block.

It's just a shot in the dark but if you have an oil cooler (I know 95's have one stock) you may have loosened the large nut that holds it on. It is the nut that you see when you unscrew your oil filter if you have a cooler. Just a maybe.

Wow, never knew about the dye thing. Unfortunately I don't have a garage. :\

How do I get the oil off, theres a LOT of it.. It'll come right off with the degreaser, just by spraying it?

Sounds like rear of intake, possibly oil sending unit also right next to rear of intake but one other good point was posted, oil cooler could be leaking also I have had that problem

Prolly your intake manifold leak.
DO THIS...very fast and easy to narrow it down...

Take your hand, and wipe the back of the intake and see if it comes back oily...if it comes back with oil the you gotta pull your intake and fix it. Do a search for intake manifold leak on here..

Killer suggestions guys, thanks alot. I've heard of hte intake leak a million times, but never though it was *that* bad. Always thought it was the sides of the intake that leaked.

Can one of you tell me how best to get the oil off of the underbody? I dont have a lift or anything.. Would it come right off using a degreaser?

Should I jack it up, and hose it as well as I can from the bottom?

One more, if someone has the intake manifold leak, will they lose a lot of power?

Something feels like its "holding back" a lot of my horses when I get on it.. I just did the fuel filter, made it ALOT smoother and fixed my more-often-than-not 500rpm idle, but it still feels like somethings pulling the car the other way when I floor it

I've got plugs/wires.. Scared of doing them though.

I had what I thought was an intake manifold leak, but it didnt seem like it was loosing power.... come to find out now I have a rear main leak.... A lot of things can cause bad performance, but I don't think an oil leak will cause a noticible decrease. Clogged cat's, Bad plugs/wires, Dirty O2 sensors, fuel/air filters... Start w/ the cheapest and work your way up.

Im so goddamn pissed. I changed the fuel filter yesterday and my car quit idling at 500, was idling at 1k the entire day, felt alot smoother. Got back in it today, soon as it warmed up 500rpm..

Ugh I miss driving 4cyls.
