We can argue this back and forth for days...point is 4 water pumps and three optis is as you said, not normal. I suggest you find the cause of your PREMATURE failures and fix it or else you'll be swaping out an opti and water pump again shortly.

I wasn't talking about the mechanics... Look for the common factor.

Well, if its not the mechanics and its not the parts then you must mean the engine because the only other common factor is me paying up the wazzu to keep this thing operating.

And your guess is as good as mine.

I don't know...bent water pump shaft causing the pump to grind and fail, which in turn leaks onto the opti, using remanufactured water pumps which failed and leaked on the opti, throwing on a cap and rotor when the car needed a new optical sensor, leaky radiator/heater hose over the opti... No idea, but something is wrong.

Its obivious there was something broken that was never fixed when the repairs were made or the parts were replaced that didn't need to be replaced. I would think a bad water pump gear can screw up both the water pump and then ruin the opti when it leaks on it. Theres been a couple of times i saw someone go through multiple water pumps in no time and the problem wasn't fixed but just replaced with more parts.

UPDATE: Well, for the skeptics....The oil leak did not come from the distributor as originally thought but came from a warped recessed area on the timing chain cover where the waterpump/driveshaft seal is placed which cost me another $800. No mechanic to blame there. I state again....HATING THE LT1!!!

Well, that's definitely not normal (and I have never heard of such a thing), plus it could have been caused by one of your friendly mechanics.

If I hated my LT1 like you, I would definitely sell. I hate to see people in that much pain.

My dad had a Chevy Chevette which is one of the worst built cars in history and it had fewer problems than this thing.
If you hated it so much you should have sold it and dumped it on someone else, at leaste when I replace things...In my head I tell myself I will appreciate this in the long run as it will be more reliable.

No pictures yet. It is your basic red z28 A4 with t-tops. It has 149K with a brand new Performabuilt Level 1 transmission with shift kit. Almost everything has been replaced, i.e. opti, waterpump, alternator, radiator, timing chain cover, head gasket. It has many mods. If you are seriously interested feel free to pm me. I live in Santa Clara, California.
