oil leak from apparently everywhere cars dead

Ok, I have a bit of a dilema. I had brought my car to a mechanic(if you can call him that) and we sprayed the engine down and let it sit a while and then started it back up to see where I was leaking oil from. I was told it was coming from the passenger side valve cover and possibly a couple other places too but he couldnt tell. My engine is covered in oil for the most part and so is the underside of my car.

I have been losing oil pressure after about 15 minutes or so and it will sit at about 10-15psi for about another 10 minutes then drop off to zero when at idle. If Im at a light I have to hold the brake in like normal but apply pressure to the accelerator just to keep oil pressure above the orange line to keep the check gauges light off.

Now this morning I go out to start my car and go to the bank and nothing, I cant turn it over. There nothing at all. I still have power to all my accessories but my engine is dead apparently.

Could this be from the optispark going bad from oil getting in it, car stumbled and backfired a bit before. I have also heard oil pressure droping off could be from the intake manifold have a leak aswell.

I was just wondering if I should take off the top end of my engine and replace all the gaskets before I go and replace my opti, and my ignition(been planning on doing this one anyways).

All help will be appreciated

Thanks,

chris

If it was a bad opti the car would still turn over. I'm thinking low battery, dirty/rusty battery cable connections, VATS or bad starter in that order.

he killed your opti when he sprayed it and your leak is more then likely the back of the intake manifold

You've been adding oil to make up for the leaks, right? Oil press that drops as the engine warms up is a pretty good sign that the main and/or rod bearings are worn out. That may or may not have anything to do with it not starting (mech. got the opti wet is my bet). Sounds like you have a rebuild in your future. A quality rebuild will take care of the bearings (oil press. prob) and cure the leaks -- it'll get all new gaskets. I had a '70 Buick Skylark that did that and the rotating assy. bearings were toast.
