oil leak on the 96 camaro I just bought

ok I am familiar with the rear intake seal leak but I am worried this on may be the main, I just had the engine flushed and used synthetic oil. my leak comes out by the inspection cover on the auto trans. oil is very clean and only leaks when car is running I tried to felel back of intake but only one side so far. seemed dry. I am worried ite the rear main. if it were has anybody paid recently for this fix if so how much? I just dont have time for this. leak is pretty decent size yet oil is not all over bottom of car. thanl you in advance Allen

Get a mirror and a flash light and check out the rear of the intake, make sure the oil filter is not the cause also. It could be that both are leaking and fixing the easier could lessen the oil leak untill you have time.

I just did my intake seal and my oil pan is dry, but there is still a leak that runs down the oil filter (thats not comming from the filter) while parked.

rear main isn't bad to do just takes a couple of hours, but is on the easy side. My rear main is leaking also and it is coming thrugh the transmission an engine gap heavily. I got quote 700 by a local garage to do it and my oil pan seal.

Just curious if you have a high mileage car or if it was rebuilt recently?

I was just curious if maybe you had a groove cut into the crank from the seal. It can happen. Check for some posts recently that 1racerdude has replied to. He suggested installing the seal, but not driving it all the way in, leaving it stick out a 32nd of an inch. I could be wrong, but I swear I read it just a few days ago. Try this if you pull the seal out and discover a groove .

I just bought a 95 Z28 LT1 6spd manual When I bought it the guy said it has been leaking oil from the back passengers side intake he said a shop told him it was the intake because they tightened up the bolts and it slowed the leak down. And also the clutch was starting to slip (so I got the car really cheap) I just put a new clutch in it and of course replaced the rear main seal Because I thought the oil leak was actually coming from the main seal Because the whole under side of the car is caked with oil and it leaves puddles on the driveway. and the tranny was soaked with oil inside and out so therfore I thought it was the rear main, well nope it still leaks oil bad and the tranny is getting wet again and getting oil all over the clutch so I did al ittle more investigating and noticed the guy was right its comimg out of the back of the intake and running down the back of the block and getting into the bellhousing and getting the clutch and tranny wet. So it can be very desiving you may think rear main seal is bad but it could be the intake gasket. good luck I'm gonna do my intake right away tomorrow so I dont wreck another clutch.
